tips and tricks that can help you make moving easier

I knew when I married my husband that I wouldn't have much of a stable life. I knew that I would have to be willing to move as often as needed for his job. Over the last eight years, we have moved six times. Although moving is getting easier, it is still a challenge that we have to get through. All of those moves have helped me come up with a lot of great ways to reduce the time it takes to pack and unpack the things we own. This blog contains tips and tricks that can help you make moving easier.

4 Ways Taking Pictures Can Help You Move

When it comes to packing up for a big move, many people are focused on getting things packed in boxes and covered in bubble wrap. However, it's also important to take some pictures before you move your stuff for the following reasons.

Document Valuable Items

Do you have valuable items that will be packed up by your moving company? It is worth taking a picture of your valuables to prove that they were in your home prior to other people coming in to pack them. Consider handling the packing of your valuables yourself if you are worried about something happening to them.

Document The Condition Of Items

Photographs can also help document the shape that current items are in prior to moving them. This is important to not only document things that are in good condition, but to document existing damage as well. This will help clear up any confusion if a large piece of furniture arrives at your new place with a scratch or dent in it that wasn't there prior to the move. If you purchased moving insurance, you can use it to help replace or repair items that are damaged now that you have the proof of what happened during the move.

Document Electronic Setups

If you are disassembling a home theater, it will help to take a photograph or two of the way that the cables are all plugged into the back of your TV, sound receiver, or other tech devices. This will help you remember which cables go into each port, and have things hooked up in the exact same way as you had them before once you set up your home theater at your new home. The same can be said about a home router setup or a computer, which has plenty of cables plugged into specific places.

Document The Condition Of Your Old Place

Moving out of an apartment? It will help to have photographs of the empty apartment when you are completely moved out. You'll want to have proof that the apartment was clean and damage-free, or document the extent of existing damage so that you remember how serious it actually is. This can help you get your security deposit back in the end if there is a debate about the condition you left the place in.

With these tips in mind for what to photograph, your move should hopefully go very smoothly on your moving day. Call a residential moving service if you need help with your move.
